Today's City Moves cover workplace strategy, risk, insolvency practitioners and legal eagles. Take a look at these movers and shakers:

JLL

JLL has appointed Guzman de Yarza Blache as head of its workplace strategy business practice in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Guzman joined JLL in 2016 as head of workplace strategy and design in Spain and will continue to cover this role as part of his position as head of EMEA workplace strategy. Guzman has more than 15 years of experience in architecture, design and consultancy, holds a PhD in architecture and lectures on the strategic design of spaces masters programme at the IE School of Architecture and Design in Spain.

Canada Group

Canada Group (COLG) announces the appointment of Richard Lumley as chief risk officer, who joins from SMBC Capital Markets. Richard has over 20 years’ experience as a risk management professional, with extensive knowledge of business operations management, process improvement and project administration. In particular, Richard has a wealth of experience in devising and implementing robust plans with an aim to achieve organisational goal. As part of his role, Richard has controlled risk disciplines and critical projects as well as streamlining operational process for continuous process improvement. He is a highly accomplished professional who has demonstrated a track record of success in leading a diverse range of operations.

Insolvency Practitioners Association

The Insolvency Practitioners Association (IPA) has appointed Michelle Thorp as chief executive with effect from 10 September. Michelle joins the IPA from the Department for International Trade where she was digital, data and technology lead and a major project leader for the Cabinet Office, specialising in strategic organisational change. Michelle has almost 20 years’ experience dealing with senior government departments which will be invaluable given the IPA’s role in developing the regulatory framework under which all insolvency practitioners operate.

Mayer Brown

Mayer Brown has recruited leveraged finance lawyer, Paul Tannenbaum, as a partner in the firm’s banking and finance practice in London. His appointment builds on Mayer Brown's ongoing investment in its bank lending and finance capabilities and follows the recent hire of Stuart Brinkworth, who joined the London office as head of the European leveraged finance team in June. Paul, who was previously at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP, acts for lenders, borrowers and financial institutions on acquisition and leveraged finance.
