City Moves for 25 April 2019 – Who’s switching jobs at the Economist Group, Gumtree and Oasis?

Today's City Moves includes the Economist Group, Gumtree and Oasis.

The Economist Group

The Economist Group has announced that Lara Boro will become its new chief executive. Lara joins from Informa, where she is currently chief executive of Informa Intelligence. She will take up the position later this year, when Chris Stibbs, the current chief executive, will step down. In addition to her current role at Informa, Lara Boro was previously chief, International at Top Right Group and has held senior roles at CPA Global, the Financial Times and Mondex International. Lord Deighton, chairman of The Economist Group, said: “The Board is delighted to appoint Lara as The Economist Group’s next chief executive. She has great experience in both business-to-consumer and business-to-business information markets, and is ideally suited to leading the group through its next phase of development.”

Gumtree

Gumtree has strengthened its leadership team with the appointments of a new chief marketing officer and a head of motors. Claire Howard-Jones has joined Gumtree UK as the chief marketing officer, taking responsibility for marketing across the full Gumtree portfolio, including for Motors.co.uk, which was acquired by the business in February. Claire brings with her more than 20 years of extensive marketing leadership experience with brands including Amazon, Ancestry.com, Sainsbury’s, Expedia, TripAdvisor and British Airways. Phill Jones has been appointed head of motors, joining Claire to drive the growth of Gumtree’s multi-million pound motors business. In addition Katherine Cunliffe is being promoted to take on the role of head of product – motors, tasked with delivering the new joint proposition for dealers, following the integration of Motors.co.uk, eBay Motors and Gumtree Motors.

Oasis

Oasis and Warehouse Group have announced that Michelle Evatt will be joining Oasis as design director later this year. Michelle joins from Ted Baker where she is currently associate director womenswear creative. Michelle has worked at Ted Baker since 2005 starting as senior designer and having been appointed head of design in 2016 and to her current role last year.

The appointment at Oasis follows a review of the design, buying and merchandising leadership team. the brand announced earlier this year that Huong Su, merchandise director had joined the brand in January and the appointment of Delia Phillips as buying director who will join the brand in the summer.

Sarah Welsh, managing director of Oasis commented:

“We are absolutely delighted that Michelle will be joining Oasis.”
