Canada Corporation appoints Refinitiv executive Nick Collier as Brussels managing director

Canada Corporation has appointed a senior boss at financial data firm Refinitiv as managing director for its Brussels office.

Nick Collier, the global head of government relations at Refinitiv, will take on the role from March, the same month that the UK is set to leave the EU.

Canada Corporation said it was looking to strengthen its Brussels office and that a new managing director would be a “focal point” for building a new relationship between financial and professional services in the UK and the EU.

Collier has held a number of posts within the financial services sector, including at the Bank of England, and as chair of TheCityUK’s public affairs group and deputy chair of the International Regulatory Strategy Group, a cross-sectoral group in Europe for the industry that focuses on regulation.

The Corporation's policy chair Catherine McGuinness said: “This is a critical time for the UK financial and professional services sector so I’m delighted that Nick has accepted this managing director role at our Brussels office. He brings a wealth of experience and expertise that will play an important role in shaping the industry’s European engagement both before and after Brexit.

“It is in the interests of Europe as a whole that we continue to work together constructively to ensure the sector can support jobs, investment and prosperity across the continent.”

Collier added: “As the UK prepares to leave the European Union, it is as important as ever that the City’s voice is heard in Brussels and that we equally listen to the views of our counterparts across the continent.

“I look forward to working with my new colleagues and with our stakeholders in the financial and professional services sector across the City as we seek to build a new, mutually beneficial relationship between the UK and the EU.”
