Christian Eriksen in stable condition in hospital after collapsing during Denmark Euro 2020 match against Finland

Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen is in a stable condition in hospital after collapsing during the Euro 2020 match against Finland on Saturday.

Eriksen received CPR on the field in Copenhagen after falling to the ground as he chased the ball.

The goalless opening match of Group B was suspended for two hours, before resuming later in the evening.

Finland went on to win 1-0, after a goal from Joel Pohjanpalo.

Governing body Uefa said: “The player is now in hospital and in a stable condition.”

The incident occurred just before half-time. After lengthy treatment, Eriksen was carried from the field on a stretcher.

The Danish football association said Eriksen was awake and undergoing further tests.

“Christian Eriksen is awake and his condition remains stable,” they said.

“He remains hospitalized at Rigshospitalet for further examinations.”

Uefa added: “Following the request made by players of both teams, Uefa has agreed to restart the match between Denmark and Finland tonight at 20:30 CET (TBC).

“The last four minutes of the first half will be played, there will then be a 5-minute half-time break followed by the second half.”

The match has been suspended due to a medical emergency which involved Denmark’s Christian Eriksen. The player in now in hospital and in a stable condition.

UEFA wishes Christian Eriksen a full and speedy recovery and wishes to thank both teams for their exemplary attitude.

Eriksen, 29, is one of Denmark’s star players with more than 100 appearances for his country.

He won the Italian league title this year with Inter Milan. He joined Inter from Tottenham Hotspur, where he spent seven seasons before leaving 18 months ago.

Euro 2020 began on Friday, a year later than planned, and is taking place in 11 cities across Europe.

England are due to play their opening match of the tournament against Croatia at Wembley on Sunday.
