Chris Froome prize money: Team Sky rider on verge of Tour de France victory – but how much will he earn?

Chris Froome has all but secured a third Tour de France title ahead of the final stage in Paris, and his reward for being the first Briton to achieve such a feat will be fittingly lucrative.

The Team Sky rider has a seemingly insurmountable lead over Romain Bardet of four minutes and five seconds following a wet penultimate stage in the Alps.

It puts him on the verge of a €544,000 (£455,286) prize, the largest pay cheque he's ever received from the Tour.

As the presumptive winner of this year's general classification, Froome can look forward to €500,000 in prize money.

Race organisers have boosted the reward by €50,000 compared to the €450,000 secured by the Olympic medallist last year.

With two outright stage wins worth €11,500 each, 12 successive days in the yellow jersey worth €6,000 (€500 is rewarded to the holder each day) and a further 11 top 20 finishes worth a collective €19,500, Froome's total take home from the Tour stands at €544,000.

Last year Froome's general classification pole position, combined with earnings picked up for individual stage wins, holding the yellow jersey and the white and red polka dot jersey (worth €300 per day) – an accolade he has not won this year – was worth €477,850, with €27,850 coming from individual stage prize money.

Two years earlier, when Froome won his first Tour title, he earned a total of €490,410, just over €40,000 of which had come from his individual stage performances including a memorable win on the Mont Ventoux worth €800 on its own.
