If you're searching for the nation's best plate of fish and chips look no further.

The Golden Fish in Dagenham has been crowned the Best Chippy in the country, battering the rest of the 900 restaurants competing to take first plaice.

The awards are run by the Potato Council as part of Chip Week. That's a real thing and has been going for 24 years.

“Being crowned the best chippy in Great Britain is a real honour, and we would like to say a huge thank you to our dedicated team of workers and of course, to our loyal customers who voted for us to win,” said manager Jason Aiken.

If you live near you'd best get your skates on – Aiken is offering free chips to anyone who visits the shop on February 23, though under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

If you're not London-based, fear not. Here's a list of the Chip Week 2015 regional winners:

Scotland – Hornblowers, West Bay, Gourdon, Aberdeenshire,

Wales – Les & Rita’s Fish Bar, 28 Wellington Road, Rhyl, Clwyd,

South East – Golden Fish (and overall winner) 767 Becontree Avenue, Dagenham,

In previous years the Potato Council has celebrated Chip Week by creating a series of pictures of Great British landmarks made out of the nation's favourite carbohydrate.

The names are all ours though…
