Chelsea win the race for £26m Mata
CHELSEA are poised to complete their biggest signing of the summer after agreeing a fee with Valencia for winger Juan Mata.
Spain international Mata will complete his move this week, subject to a medical, for a fee thought to be around £26m. He is expected to sign a five-year deal worth £70,000 a week.
Arsenal and Tottenham both enquired after Mata earlier in the summer but Chelsea last night confirmed in a statement that their bid had been accepted.
The move comes after the signings of youngsters Thibaut Courtois, Oriol Romeu and Romelu Lukaku and could yet be followed by the arrival of Luka Modric.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has left Modric out for tonight’s trip to Manchester United, admitting that the Croatian midfielder’s head has been turned.
