Dynamo Kiev vs Chelsea: Jose Mourinho fumes after penalty claims denied

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho risked further sanctions by ripping into referee Damir Skomina after the Slovenian official failed to award his side a penalty during their Champions League stalemate against Dynamo Kiev last night.

Reigning Premier League champions Chelsea were unable to unlock the Ukrainians’ defence as the recalled Eden Hazard struck a post and Willian hit the underside of the crossbar with a second-half free-kick.

Mourinho was left incandescent by Skomina’s failure to point to the spot following a challenge by Dynamo midfielder Serhiy Rybalka on Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas.

“The referee was weak and naïve,” said Mourinho. “Big penalty. I cannot understand what the referee behind the goal does because he doesn’t make a clear decision neither. When the result is 0-0 and such a penalty is not given, it is a crucial moment.”

Mourinho was fined £50,000 and handed a suspended one-match ban by the Football Association after questioning the integrity of referee Robert Madley in the wake of Chelsea’s defeat to Southampton at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.

A goalless draw means the Blues remain third in Group G, a point behind Dynamo and three adrift of leaders Porto, who dispatched Maccabi Tel-Aviv 2-0 at Estadio do Dragao.

Skipper John Terry said: “We haven’t got the result we wanted but the desire is there and the hunger is there.”
