Central contracts for England trio
ENGLAND trio Chris Tremlett, Eoin Morgan and Tim Bresnan have been rewarded for their summer exploits with coveted central contracts for the first time.
Surrey paceman Tremlett won the man of the series award against Sri Lanka in the early part of the summer, but missed three matches against India with back and hamstring strains.
All-rounder Tim Bresnan, who also made a significant contribution to the Ashes winning campaign in the winter, shone in Tremlett’s absence against India, while the currently injured Morgan has cemented his place in England’s middle order following the retirement of Paul Collingwood.
England will today name their squad for the two upcoming Twenty20 fixtures against the West Indies at the Kia Oval and with regular skipper Stuart Broad out injured, Bresnan would jump at the chance to skipper the team.
“Definitely,” said Bresnan when asked if he has any designs on the England captaincy – next week or at any stage in the future.
“It would be a massive honour to lead England out in whatever format of the game. I wouldn’t turn it down. I’d love to do it.”
