Celebrities are racing to be the ambassadors of Investec Derby
THE STARS started shining on June’s Investec Derby Festival at Epsom with yesterday’s announcement of its 2015 celebrity ambassadors.
And it’s the fourth year that City PM is the official newspaper of the Derby, the greatest flat race in the world.
The ambassadors are a diverse lot: former Epsom champion Frankie Dettori, Olympic Gold medalist Denise Lewis, two-star Michelin chef Michel Roux, Jr., DJ and MTV star Laura Whitmore, and television and fashion darling Millie Mackintosh, who said: “The Derby is the pinnacle of the summer and I’m looking forward to enjoying a spectacular day out.”
Dettori can attest to the Derby’s magic, calling his 2007 win “one of [his] career highlights. The race still stands as the greatest flat race in the world and the one every jockey wants to win,” he said.
■ COFFEE lovers rejoice. Soon you’ll be able to satisfy that pumpkin spice latte craving without ever having to leave the office. Starbucks has revealed details of an eagerly awaited new delivery service which it will begin testing before summer. Seattle, the home of the international coffee chain, and New York City will be the first two locations to experience the delivery service trial, the Seattle Times reports. The coffee company has already started experimenting with mobile payment which allows customers to order online and then pick up their order in store, avoiding the queues along the way. Now delivery will take this a step further by bringing the coffee to you. The Capitalist’s is a grande latte with an extra two shots, please.
■ HERE’S something to put a spring in your step. Tomorrow marks the official start of spring. Now for the science: spring is sprung when the days become longer than the nights. On the day equinox falls, the plane of the earth’s equator passes the exact centre of the sun, meaning the planet is neither tilted towards or away from our nearest star. So it’s time to start dusting off your diet books and getting that beach body you promise yourself every year ahead of summer, which officially starts on 21 June. And our clocks don’t go forward for another few days when British Summer Time starts. This will robs us of an hour in bed when it officially starts on 29 March.
