Cadbury is changing another chocolate iconic recipe – this time it’s Fruit & Nut

Bad news, chocolate lovers: Cadbury is changing another iconic recipe.

Fresh from the backlash over the changes to its Creme Eggs – resulting in the brand having egg on its face – and dismay over the shrinking sizes of its variety boxes Roses and Heroes parent company Mondelez is preparing for another battle – this time over its much-loved Fruit & Nut bars

Luckily, this time it's not changing the chocolate itself – that continues to be made with Dairy Milk (unlike Creme Eggs).

Instead it is added sultanas to the bars for the first time.

"While raisins have actually traditionally been the ‘fruit’ of Cadbury Fruit & Nut, sultanas have been brought into the fold to add more variation and will now be found in bars across the country," Cadbury's told City PM

A spokeswoman explained that the company wanted to ensure it had "a flexible supply of the dried fruit we use in our famous Fruit and Nut bars to both retain quality and ensure it’s still an affordable treat".

Cadbury's cited research in which just seven per cent of Brits could tell the difference between the two dried fruit, insisting that "many consumers noticed no change in taste when trying both bars, stating both sultanas and raisins were just as tasty as each other".

Claire Low, marketing manager for Cadbury Dairy Milk, added: “We are committed to making sure that Cadbury Dairy Milk Fruit & Nut remains true to what makes it so special – the iconic blend of Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate, dried fruit and almonds.”

As with the Creme Egg, the proof of the chocolate bar will be in the eating.
