British tennis ace Hutchins reveals cancer remission news on Twitter

BRITISH tennis star Ross Hutchins confirmed yesterday he is in remission from cancer.

The Commonwealth Games silver medallist, who specialises in doubles and counts Wimbledon champion Andy Murray among his best friends, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in December and underwent a six-month course of chemotherapy at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea.

And Hutchins, 28, yesterday took to Twitter to reveal his news.

“Was a big day today, met my Oncologist and I am now in remission. So grateful to fantastic Professor Cunningham and his team @royalmarsden,” he said. “Thank you to everyone for your constant, incredible support, I couldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for all of you, I really mean that!”

Hutchins won doubles silver alongside Ken Skupski at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi and has not ruled out a future return to the court.

Murray dedicated his victory at the Brisbane International in January to Hutchins and organised a Rally Against Cancer campaign to raise money for the Royal Marsden, which included the staging of a doubles match at Queen’s club in west London with Tim Henman, Ivan Lendl and Tomas Berdych.

And the world No2 also used Twitter to express his delight at Hutchins’ news.

He tweeted: “Just got some of the best news I’ve heard in a long long time.”
