Piccadilly Line strike suspended tomorrow but Central Line action set to go ahead from midnight
Strike action on the Piccadilly Line scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed, it emerged this afternoon.
However, industrial action on the Central Line strike is still set to begin at midnight tonight.
The RMT union said “sufficient progress” has been made in last-ditch talks with Transport for London (TfL) today that it has called off the Piccadilly Line strike.
Industrial action was set to start from 1.30pm tomorrow before finishing at 3pm on Thursday.
RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: “I want to pay tribute to RMT members on the Piccadilly Line whose solidarity and resilience has been the decisive factor in forcing London Underground back to the negotiating table where sufficient progress has been made to allow the scheduled action tomorrow to be suspended.
“The union remains vigilant to any attacks and abuse of policies, procedures and agreements on London Underground and will always take the required action to protect dignity, fairness and justice in the workplace.”
RMT was set to join Aslef in a strike on the Central Line, which Aslef said is a result of a breakdown in industrial relations.
Cash added: “Industrial relations along the Central Line have been at breaking point for some time now and the failure of the management to address the issues, and a conscious decision to up the ante by attempting to single out and pick off individual members of staff, has tipped the situation over the edge and has led to the announcement of strike action.”
TfL said both strikes were a result of it sacking two drivers for alleged safety breaches. City PM has approached it for comment about the suspended strike.
