Currys PC World has reported its best-ever start to Black Friday, with more than seven million shoppers visiting its site already this week and eight items being sold every minute so far this morning.

Yesterday's traffic to the electricals specialist almost matched that of Boxing Day last year – typically retailers' busiest day in the calendar.

While some retailers – such as Tesco – appear to be seeing a slower start to the sales bonanza than expected, this morning alone, there has been a 1,100 per cent increase in hourly unique visitors and a 2,900 per cent increase on orders compared to the same time last week, Currys PC World claimed.

Its most popular deals so far have included £30 off Apple iPads, £110 off Dyson V6 Animal Cordless Vacuum Cleaner and the Samsung Ultra HD 4K 43 inch TV, which is being sold for £399, down from £549.

In-store, the Lenovo G50 15.6 inch laptop, which is available for £249.99 instead of £349.99, the LG Smart Ultra HD 4K 55 inch TV, which is being sold for £699, down from £1,199, and the Samsung Smart Ultra HD 4K 55 inch TV, which is on at £899 instead of £1299 are some of the current best-sellers.

Stuart Ramage, ecommerce director at Currys PC World, said: “Last year was one of our most successful trading days ever so we’ve spent the last year preparing for this year’s event.

"We’ve seen unprecedented demand online with a 53 per cent increase in hourly web traffic and across the country we’ve seen customers queuing from before the stores open – everyone’s in good spirits and things are running smoothly.”

To help you plan ahead, you can find all the latest deals, news and opinion on Black Friday here, including Sainsbury's, Tesco, Apple and Amazon. But don't expect to find Asda among them this year, the supermarket has set a precedent and pulled out of the sales bonanza.
