Bitcoin volumes low as markets stay flat

It’s been another flat 24 hours for the prices of major cryptocurrencies, with Bitcoin up less than one per cent since this time yesterday.

The leading cryptocurrency is holding at just below $42k, as demand continues to remain low. There’s been a significant drop in the seven-day average real BTC trading volume lately, which this week hit lows not seen for almost six months.

The primary causes for this lack of demand has been put down to the same global financial factors that have plagued markets for the past month, including supply chain issues, Omicron, and rising inflation. As positive signals continue to emerge that the pandemic is coming to an end, will we see an uptick in sentiment any time soon?

Elsewhere, Ethereum is also up around one per cent in the last day and is currently changing hands for around $3,150.

Fact checking the fact checkers…

Fact check: Bitcoin consumes a small fraction of 1% of global power today compared to the WEF's 2017 statement that it would consume all of it by now.

A lot of these estimates and articles unfortunately come from folks who don't understand how Bitcoin works. https://t.co/bqUmTiJZGo
