Bernie’s Brit GP warning

THE BRITISH Grand Prix will be dumped from the calendar indefinitely if a deal is not done by 9 December, Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has warned.

Donington’s failure to raise funding to redevelop the circuit has left Silverstone as the most viable venue if the race is to be retained.

But after weeks of uncertainty a deal is yet to be struck, and Ecclestone declared yesterday that time is running out. “They had a contract in place that they could have signed if they’d wanted to but they haven’t. At the moment there is no British Grand Prix,” he said. “I think 9 December is when the
Formula One commission meet so that’s when it will be taken off the calendar. If there’s no contract in place there won’t be a British Grand Prix.”

Ecclestone also expressed surprise at world champion Jenson Button’s move to McLaren: “I suppose he feels confident enough to take on Lewis Hamilton.  It’s a bit of a task, that’s all.”
