BEAUTY NOTES: DAXITA VAGHELA EYELASH EXTENSIONS

PERHAPS it wasn’t the cleverest timing.?I decided to have eyelash extensions 10 days after laser eye surgery. But Daxita, who does a full set of lashes in an industry-beating single hour, put me at ease with her immensely light touch and singsong voice. My options were a natural look, a “fashion” look and an all-out drag-queen “look-at-me” style. I went for natural.

I lay back and relaxed. It all felt rather lovely as she neatly tweezed and pulled and tweaked my eyelids.?She was attaching synthetic black lashes, bonded with glue to my real lashes. They fall out naturally over the following month and you are allowed to swim, sweat, do anything with them, except use oily makeup remover near them.

When I sat up, I couldn’t take my eyes off myself. If you aren’t a narcissist, you will be after this. Suddenly I had a lush, black set of eyelashes that curved out and up in a supremely pretty fashion.?I looked alert and my eyes looked greener than before. Having stunning lashes makes you instantly more confident. I soon forgot I’d had surgery after a few jitters (what if a lash goes in my eye?) and began swanning around handing out lingering looks. After about two-and-a-half weeks, though, I took them off myself (a bit of oil will do it) as they were falling out with my real eyelashes (they aren’t meant to), and I was afraid of ending up bald-eyed. For the time I had them though,?I felt a million bucks. £150 for a full set. Daxita is at Atherton & Cox, 18 New Cavendish Street, tel: 0207 487 4048. www.daxitalashes.co.uk
