The BBC is set to highlight reductions and savings made in relation to senior managers and “talent” in its annual report today.

Published at 11am today, the corporation will report that it has cut one in 10 senior manager roles in the last year, reducing the number from 401 to 356.

The report will also say there has been a £8m reduction in “talent” – a definition which includes the likes of Gary Lineker, Chris Evans and Graham Norton – pay to £200m.

The corporation will report that it is on track to deliver annual savings of £700m by 2016/17.

Director general Tony Hall will highlight the successes of shows such as the Night Manager, War and Peace and the Great British Bake Off.

A BBC source said: "Programmes like the Night Manager and War and Peace have shown the BBC at its creative best over the past year and by cutting senior managers and back office costs we've been able to focus more of our money on the things which really matter to the public.

"There are still tough financial challenges ahead, so the search for savings is not over, but the progress we've made will help us create a BBC fit for the digital age which continues to act as a creative beacon to the world."

The annual report comes months after the government published its white paper for the next BBC royal charter.

The corporation will today highlight how, over the course of the current charter period, it has cut its headcount by 2,000 and delivered savings of more than £150m a year.
