Battersea Power Station unveils the first “local, artisanal” tenants at its Circus West retail development
Battersea Power Station has unveiled the first of the tenants for its Circus West retail development – and there's a decidedly olde worlde feel about them.
The team behind the giant development, which will eventually include thousands of homes, shops and offices – as well as leisure space and parkland – said each of the new commercial tenants had been "specially selected" for their "quality and the individuality of the experience they can offer". While the list includes Pedler Cru, a "neighbourhood eatery", butcher Allens of Battersea and The General Store (which, ahem, is a general store), it also encompasses a village hall, a "dedicated space for events, arts, residents and visitors". And, presumably, the odd jumble sale.

The hall will "offer an active social space for existing and future local residents and the London arts community," said Battersea today.
The retailers chosen have a "proven track record in the area, connecting to the community they serve and creating that all-important village feel which is what people really want", added Joanne Skilton, head of leasing at Battersea.
Yesterday Battersea chief executive Rob Tincknell insisted the residential element of the £8bn development is running at full speed, after City PM reported investors were fleeing from the site.
Although he did concede changes to stamp duty have had a "relatively big impact on the market", he added it had made sales of £110m in the last four months.
