Barcelona have unveiled further details of their plans to renovate and expand its Camp Nou stadium to a capacity of 105,000 by the end of the 2021/2022 season.

Japanese firm Nikken Sekkei and Catalonian architects Pascual i Ausio were picked ahead of 45 bids by a nine-person Barcelona panel to design the new Camp Nou after submitting plans that are "open, elegant, serene, timeless Mediterranean and democratic" according to the club.

The development project, due to begin during the 2017/18 season, will last up to four years and boost the famous ground's capacity by nearly 6,000 for a reported cost of £500m.

For the first time, the stadium will be fitted with a roof measuring 47,000 m2 to keep fans undisturbed from rain, wind and sun as they gush over the graces of the Blaugrana on the field.

The reigning European and Spanish champions promise that every seat will offer an unobstructed view of the pitch and new high-definition video scoreboards.

"It is also notable for its relationship with the environment, providing depth, creating shadows and making members the stars of the facade and of the open area at all times," a club statement read.

"The proposal presents a very subtle attempt to intervene in the environment to facilitate circulation and achieve diverse urban usage in the Barça Campus and guarantees a clear and safe construction.

"In short, it is a unique solution, reproducing the characteristic vision of the grandstand and canopy, from the inside out, a silent and powerful tribute to the stadium built by Francesc Mitjans in 1957."
