Barack and Michelle Obama sign podcast deal with Spotify

Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle have signed on to a multi-year partnership with streaming giant Spotify to produce exclusive podcasts.

Obama said he believes podcasts “offer an extraordinary opportunity to foster productive dialogue, make people smile and make people think, and, hopefully, bring us all a little closer together.”

The news follows a similar content deal the former First Family have with Netflix to produce films and documentaries.

For the Spotify deal, the Obamas will “develop, produce and lend their voices” to select podcasts that will be available worldwide, the streaming service and the Obama’s production company, Higher Ground, said today.

The joint statement did not include details of any topics that the podcasts would cover, nor when they would start to be available to listeners.

The financial terms of the deal are not yet known.

After leaving the White House the Obamas have maintained a presence in the media, with Michelle Obama’s memoir ‘Becoming’ selling more than 10million copies within four months of its release.
