Bailout secured as masked men menace Yanis

GREEK finance minister Yanis Varoufakis finally managed to secure a bailout this week – courtesy of his wife, Danae.

The couple were dining in the Exarchia district – a neighbourhood popular with extreme leftists and anarchists – when a masked group stormed into the restaurant.

As the group approached him in a threatening manner, his wife wrapped her arms around him and stood between Varoufakis and the gang.

Then the finance minister took the matter outside, where he and the group exchanged intellectual blows before he and his wife left the scene on his motorcycle. All parties were unharmed.

Varoufakis is reported as saying: “I started a dialogue with them, saying that I wanted to hear them out, even if that meant that I would be hit. After 15 minutes of a tense but non-violent talk, spirits calmed.”

A source close to the minister said: “They [the group] didn’t agree of course, but they appreciated the fact he defended himself in a democratic, open way.”

Varoufakis may have talked himself out of trouble this time, but after the last set of talks with European finance ministers turned sour, he tweeted: “They are unanimous in their hate for me; and I welcome their hatred.”
