Whoops… Australia prints 46m banknotes with spelling mistake
Australia’s latest AU$50 banknote has been printed with a typo hidden in the small print.
The word “responsibility” is spelled incorrectly as “responsibilty”, with the third “i” missing, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has confirmed.

A total of 46m banknotes are thought to be affected by the blunder, which was revealed today after an eagle-eyed tipster sent Australian radio station Triple M a magnified photo of the mistake.
The RBA said the error would be corrected for future runs of the note, which is the most widely circulated in Australia and accounts for nearly half the total value of other banknotes in use.
The banknote features a picture of Edith Cowen, who was the first woman elected to the Australian parliament in 1921, and features an extract from her maiden speech.

The quote is supposed to read: “It is a great responsibility to be the only woman here and I want to emphasise the necessity which exists for other women being here.”
The note was introduced into circulation in October last year, and had been designed with new security features and elements to help the visually impaired.
