Argos and Homebase have never been considered bastions of good style. With its belly button jewels and novelty mini fridges, we would almost go as far to say Argos is where trends go to die. But owner of both brands Home Retail Group (HRG) has a plan afoot.

Concessions of middle-class taste-machine Habitat started the push towards a more stylish offering – now HRG has a new hire. Head of trends. Alexei Cowan joins the group having worked her design magic at Heals, M&S, Laura Ashley and Next.

“This is an exciting time to join Argos and Homebase,” cooed Cowan. “I love helping buyers develop products in line with the latest trends – and keeping an eye out for the next big thing!” Let’s hope she’s got her binoculars.
