Airbus has won a patent to design the next-generation “Concorde 2”, capable of flying from London to New York in an hour

The “hypersonic” plane, which has the ability to travel at 4.5 times the speed of sound, would be fuelled by a system of ramjets, turbojets and a rocket motor.

It is far quicker than most standard airlines, which complete the journey across the Atlantic in around eight hours. It is also three times faster than the original Concorde, which last flew 12 years ago.

Flying 20km higher than conventional craft, it would carry 20 people maximum, and Airbus intends to use it primarily for military purposes, carrying Soldiers between locations at high-speed.

Its aerodynamic system would also make it far quieter than most craft, even though it travels at far greater speeds.

The design has been picked up by Patent Yogi, a channel featuring futuristic patent designs.
