Adebayor: Fan slurs don’t put me off Spurs
FORMER Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor insists he would have no problem signing for the club’s bitter rivals Tottenham in the summer, even though their fans have singled him out for abuse.
Adebayor, on loan at Real Madrid, looks likely to leave Manchester City in a permanent deal this summer, having fallen out of favour with manager Roberto Mancini, and Spurs have shown interest.
Their supporters derided the Togo star with a song he regards as racist when his goals helped knock them out of the Champions League this season, but that has not deterred him from a transfer to White Hart Lane.
“I heard about the chants and I felt so bad because before joining Real Madrid, my first choice was Tottenham,” said Adebayor, who almost joined Harry Redknapp’s side in January.
“When I heard the songs I didn’t take it seriously. I would go there and sign for them. Maybe those fans were furious because Adebayor was taking them out of the Champions League and ending their dream of getting to the final.”
Redknapp is tipped to be in the market for a forward in the summer, although he says he does not know how much money chairman Daniel Levy will give him to spend.
