8/1 Weapon’s Amnesty may be RSA Chase value
TWENTY runners go to post for the opening contest of the second day of the Cheltenham Festival and I’m backing two at massive prices to cause an upset. Firstly, legendary Irish trainer Mouse Morris doesn’t bring horses over for the sake of it and he runs TINAKELLYLAD. The horse has moderate form in his native Ireland but chased home a useful Willie Mullins’ trained sort last time and is too big at a whopping 28/1 with Coral. I’ll also be having a few quid each-way on Alan King’s PENNEK who can be backed at 33/1 with William Hill. He will relish the four mile trip and stays forever.
There has been a huge amount of money for the Willie Mullins’ trained Quel Esprit in the Neptune Investment Hurdle (2.05pm), but he is plenty short enough now at around the 3/1 mark. I’d far rather side with PEDDLERS CROSS at around the 7/1 mark as he looks potentially top class. If he was trained by Paul Nicholls or Willie Mullins, he’d be half those odds.
We have already advised an each-way bet on WEAPON’S AMNESTY in the RSA Chase (2.40pm) at 16/1 and won’t be abandoning him just yet! He can still be backed each-way at around 8/1 and that looks fair value. The Coral Cup (4.00pm) looks as difficult as you might expect, but I’d give SILK AFFAIR a decent each-way chance at 16/1 with Paddy Power. She won at the meeting last year and will relish the strong pace and better ground.
The one horse that catches the eye in the Fred Winter (4.40pm) is the Irish trained SON AMIX at 14/1. He won his maiden hurdle by 28 lengths and definitely could be anything. The only concern would be the inexperience of the jockey (Brian Cooper), but his father obviously thinks he is up to the task on the big occasion.
Finally, I’ll be backing ELEGANT CONCORDE in the Bumper (5.20pm) at 7/1 on Betdaq. He has always been held in high regard by his trainer and will love the drying ground.
