WHERE TO STAY
The city isn’t the prettiest in eastern Europe, but Hotel Moskva in the centre is beautiful inside and out. With a great restaurant and spa, it’s the most comfortable way of doing Belgrade. Visit hotelmoskva.rs, rooms start at €89

WHERE TO GO
The National Museum of Serbia is the largest in the former Yugoslavia, with almost half a million objects and artefacts including many foreign masterpieces. Visit en.narodnimuzej.rs

WHERE TO DRINK
Strahinjica Bana on the eastern side of the Old Town is where all the hip young Belgradians go to eat, drink, pose and hang out. A beer in any of the terrace bars is a fine way to spend an evening.

WHERE TO EAT
For the best in Yugoslavian cuisine, look no further than Mala Fabrika. Whether it’s kebabs or slow cooked lamb, the meat here is never less than mouthwatering.
