Subway launches first vegan sub after Greggs vegan sausage roll success

Subway has jumped on board the vegan bandwagon after Greggs' vegan sausage roll proved a runaway success with everyone from flexitarians to – gasp – meat eaters.

The sandwich chain's new vegan sub lands in stores today priced from £3.80, alongside a vegan-friendly salad.

The new additions will be joined by a vegan garlic aioli, with the fast food diner hoping the menu items appeal to vegans and non-vegans alike.

The new offering is not the only vegan menu item that Subway offers, with the Veggie Delite and hash browns already suitable for vegans.

The hearty Italian and Italian breads are also vegan, along with a number of sauces available, including the bbq, sweet onion, marinara, hot chilli, yellow mustard, sweet chilli and HP brown sauces.

The addition of more permanent vegan menu items at Subway comes at a time when other chains are also reportedly expanding their vegan options.

Reports emerged yesterday that Tesco is bringing a meat free sausage roll in its in-store bakery next week, although Tesco has denied these reports.

Greggs stirred up controversy at the beginning of the new year by introducing a vegan sausage roll, which sold out in the limited number of stores it was piloted in before the company decided to make it available nationwide.
