British Airways finance boss to become new chief financial officer at parent company IAG

British Airways' finance boss Steve Gunning is to take over as the chief finance officer at parent company IAG, replacing the incumbent Enrique Dupuy de Lôme.

Willie Walsh's IAG said de Lome would also stand down as the board's executive director when the company holds its AGM in June, where Gunning's appointment will also be put to shareholders.

Walsh said: “Enrique has done a fantastic job at IAG. He played a critical role in establishing the group and was a major force in delivering our strong financial performance. It’s been a pleasure to work with him and I’d like to thank him for all his hard work in putting IAG on the map. He leaves with all our best wishes for the future.

“I’d like to welcome Steve to his new role. His appointment serves as evidence of the strength and depth of the IAG leadership team.”

De Lome said: “After eight years as CFO of IAG and prior to that, 20 years as CFO of Iberia, I believe now is the right time for me to leave IAG. I’m proud of my part in creating and developing IAG. I’m delighted that Steve is taking over as CFO. We have worked together for a number of years and I wish him well in his new role.”

De Lome has been the finance boss at IAG since the company was founded in 2011. Before that, he held the same role at Iberia and was also the chairman of the finance committee for IATA, the trade association for airlines.

Gunning, meanwhile, has been CFO at British Airways since 2016 and acting director of IAG global business services since December 2017. He joined British Airways in 1998.
