Energy regulator Ofgem is consulting on issuing URE Energy with a final order for being in breach of the Renewables Obligation Order 2015.

According to Ofgem, URE Energy failed to meet its renewables obligation by not paying into the buy-out fund by 1 September 2018 or alternatively into the late payment fund under the statutory regime.

Ofgem’s proposed final order is that URE Energy must pay £209,013.87 including interest by 31 March.

If URE Energy fails to pay by 31 March Ofgem said it was prepared to “use its powers to take further enforcement action against the company”.

Ofgem said it had previously given notice to URE Energy to deliver outstanding payments by 31 March through monthly installments, but it said URE has failed to make any payments.

Under the government’s renewables obligation scheme, suppliers such as URE who do not source the required proportion of electricity from renewables means have to pay into an Ofgem-administered buy-out fund.

Ofgem’s final order will be consulted on for 21 days before being issued to the company.
