Credit Suisse has promoted Antonia Rowan to head the bank's UK advisory and corporate broking business, replacing Lewis Burnett after he was poached by BNP Paribas.

Rowan will start her role with immediate effect, according to an internal memo seen by City PM and confirmed by a Credit Suisse spokesperson.

Rowan joined Credit Suisse as a managing director in January of this year from Jefferies. She had previously worked at the US investment bank since 1999, after a six-year stint at Merrill Lynch.

She will have responsibility for "strengthening the market share of our long standing UK advisory and corporate broking business", according to the memo, signed by Mathew Cestar, Jens Welter and Mark Echlin, Credit Suisse managing directors.

The UK is a "key area of strategic investment" in investment banking and capital markets, the memo added, saying it "remains a core focus not only on a regional level but also at a group level".

The bank has also John Hannaford as vice chairman of UK broking. Hannaford is a chartered accountant who has been with Credit Suisse since 2004.

The reshuffle comes after BNP Paribas nabbed Burnett and his collegue Andrew Forrester from Credit Suisse last month, as the French bank sets up its own UK corporate broking team.

The French bank is aiming to boost its UK operations as it tries to move up the rankings of European corporate and investment banks.
