Now you can carpool a black cab for the price of a Tube journey
Londoners will soon be able to share one of London’s iconic black cabs with a someone else heading in the same direction, with promises of making travelling by taxi as competitively priced as public transport.
Uber rival Gett will launch a carpooling service, Gett Together, in the capital and plans to roll it out to other markets such as New York.
Shahar Waiser, the founder and chief executive of Gett revealed the plans on stage at the TechCrunch Disrupt tech conference, saying that it could achieve a “price point in carpooling that’s never been done before”.
In London that would be “close to the Tube price” and around $3 in New York, both of which will be a fixed price.
“It’s a shared commute. There are many people in the car and actually using black cabs there’s the opportunity to have more people in the car in comfort. And because of that, we can achieve, firstly, faster speeds because we have access to the bus lanes,” said Waiser, in addition to competitive prices.
The service will take on UberPool in the capital, which last week extended the areas it covers in the city.
Gett Together will be available to some users from today, becoming more widely available in London in the coming weeks.
