Barclays teams up with Creative England on new tech accelerator

Barclays is teaming up with non-profit entrepreneurial support group Creative England on a new accelerator.

The programme is aimed at companies working to apply the likes of gamification, the Internet of Things, and 3D modelling to other sectors that may not be seen as traditionally digital, like healthcare or tourism.

The moves comes amid growing calls for the UK to support young companies scaling-up before they sell out to foreign rivals. Scottish tech company Skyscanner was last week bought by Chinese firm Ctrip in £1.4bn deal.

“This government is committed to backing the success of the UK’s creative industries as design and digital capability will be at the heart of the future economy,” said Matt Hancock, minister of state for digital and culture.

The accelerator will begin in the Brighton Eagle Lab in early 2017.
