Part-fence, part-wall? Donald trump speaks on US-Mexico border plans

Donald Trump has admitted that his ambitious and contentious plans to build a wall along the US-Mexico border could, in fact, be built of "some fencing".

Speaking to CBS's 60 Minutes show, the President-elect said: "For certain areas I would, but certain areas, a wall is more appropriate. I’m very good at this, it’s called construction."

He reiterated his campaign promise to build a wall. "Are you really going to build a wall?" asked host Lesley Stahl. "Yes" replied Trump.

It's Trump's first sit down interview since being elected President less than a week ago.

Having rowed back already on part of his campaign promise to repeal Obamacare, there may have been some speculation that he would do the same with the wall – one of his more outlandish plans.

The border between the two countries is more than 20 times longer than the Berlin and he estimates the cost of building it would be around $12bn (£9.5bn). Analysis by the Washington Post however, puts that figure at $25bn.

One company which is hoping to bid for the contract to build the wall, Magal Security Systems, saw its share price rocket, closing 12 per cent on Friday compared to a week earlier before the election result. The Nasdaq-listed Israeli firm also builds fences.
