Remember John Longworth, the director general of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) who stepped down after he came out in favour of Brexit?

Well, after more than six months without an official boss, the BCC has finally named his replacement – it's Adam Marshall, the man who has been acting director general all along.

Marshall, who has been at the BCC since July 2009, first as its policy chief and then running its external affairs department, has previously held roles at the Centre for Cities.

Francis Martin, the organisation's president, said Marshall was the "outstanding choice".

"Adam has a detailed knowledge of the Chamber network and a strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing Chamber members across the country. At a time of great political and economic uncertainty, I am confident that Adam has the ability and passion to enable the BCC to thrive under his leadership.”

Marshall himself added that he was "humbled and delighted".
