Northern Line night tube launch date confirmed as 18 November
The mayor of London has confirmed that the Night Tube will launch on the Northern line next month.
With Night Tube services beginning on the Jubilee Line tonight, Sadiq Khan announced today that 24-hour weekend services will begin on the Northern Line on 18 November, confirming reports from last month.
Northern Line night trains will run from High Barnet and Edgware, via the Charing Cross branch, to Morden – but not via the Bank branch.
Business owners working along the Northern Line welcomed the news. Steve Ball, owner of the Jazz Café, said: “Camden is an area that’s long been valued as a hub for nightlife in our city. It’s fantastic the Night Tube will be servicing the area and we’re looking forward to the positive impact it will have.”
And Mike Hamer, operations manager at Koko, commented: “We are over the moon with the launch of the Night Tube. It will be fantastic not only for our staff getting home at night, but also for dispersal of our customers after gigs and events, many of whom have had to leave before the end of a concert to ensure they can get home.”
Khan added: “There was a real buzz from when we launched the first Night Tube services in August, and I am delighted that the Jubilee line services are now up and running.
"Hundreds of thousands of Londoners have already benefited, and it’s great news that so many more will now be able to enjoy our world-class cultural venues on the South Bank, as well as venues such as The O2 and Wembley Stadium, without needing to make that late dash for the last Tube.
"Being from Tooting, I’m also really looking forward to the start of services on the Northern line next month.”
The Victoria and Central Lines were the first to offer 24-hour services on Fridays and Saturdays, which launched in August after a long and protracted process which saw Tube workers embark on several strikes and the start date for the project pushed back on more than one occasion.
