The man behind an electric car maker which was once a major rival of Tesla has just unveiled two new models.

Henrik Fiske0'sr last company, Fisker Automotive, went bankrupt in 2013. It was known for building luxury cars, favoured by celebrities.

Now, Fisker has created a high-end car aimed at the mass market. The electric car maker promises a longer battery life and range than any other currently available to consumers.

Fisker said:

Both the technology and the market are more mature now than when we first started out as pioneers in the electric vehicle industry, and our new vehicle will be the most innovative and cutting-edge electric car ever created.

The Danish designer has a long history of working with cars, having been employed by both Aston Martin and BMW.

The Fisker Karma model was released in 2012 and was on sale for $100,000, but after 2,000 of the cars were sold, Fisker left the company. It then filed for bankruptcy, owing US taxpayers $139m (£109m).

Fisker's rival, Tesla, has never made a profit, but announced recently that it made a record number of cars in the third quarter.

Tesla boss Elon Musk said the number of vehicles delivered hit a record 24,500 in the third quarter. The electronic car manufacturer said the figure was "slightly conservative, as we only count a car as delivered if it is transferred to the customer and all paperwork is correct."
