Usain Bolt and Mo Farah factor pulls in over 1m applications for tickets to 2017 London World Championships

Over 1m ticket applications have been made for the World Championships in London next year, where legends Usain Bolt and Mo Farah make their final appearances on the track.

According to organisers some 486,000 of 700,000 available tickets have already been sold for the 2017 World Championships at the London Stadium next August.

The chance to watch Bolt in his final 100m dash received 200,000 ticket applications alone, yet only around a quarter of those will be able to attend.

Fuelled by Olympic fever, applications flooded in from 92 countries around the world including Jamaica, Thailand, Uruguay and Armenia.

Those fans who missed out on their preferred ticket will be informed by organisers from today and invited to re-apply for unsold events later in the year.

"I'm delighted that fans from around the world will join the great British public next summer in welcoming teams from over 200 nations, making this a truly global championships both on and off the track," said IAAF president Sebastian Coe.

"Their enthusiastic support will be central to motivating the world's top athletes to produce their very best at the IAAF World Championships London 2017, so echoing the excitement and atmosphere of 2012."
