May embarks on government restructure to create a new business, energy and industrial strategy department
Prime Ministry Theresa May has made a major restructure of government, bringing together two substantial departments to create the single office for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
The move means that the old departments of Business, Innovation and Skills and Energy and Climate Change have effectively been merged.
The new office will be led by former communities and local government secretary Greg Clark, who effectively swapped roles with business secretary Sajid Javid earlier today.

Speaking after the announcement, Clark said: “I am thrilled to have been appointed to lead this new department charged with delivering a comprehensive industrial strategy, leading Government’s relationship with business, furthering our world-class science base, delivering affordable, clean energy and tackling climate change.”
It comes after Justine Greening was confirmed as education secretary, with her department picking up the responsibilities for further and higher education, including apprenticeships, which were also held within BIS.
