Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho insists new signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan has the qualities needed to thrive in the Premier League, after the playmaker's arrival at Old Trafford was confirmed.

Mkhitaryan, who joins United in a £26m deal from Borussia Dortmund, is Mourinho's third signing since taking control at Old Trafford with striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and centre-back Eric Bailly already secured.

The 27-yea-old attacking midfielder, who can play either in the middle or wide right and is the first Armenian to play in the Premier League, scored 23 goals and made an impressive 32 assists for Dortmund in the Bundesliga last season.

"Henrikh is a very talented footballer who has been in such prolific form for both his club and his country," said Mourinho.

"He is a real team player with great skill, vision and also has a good eye for goal. I am delighted he has chosen to sign for United.

"I believe he will make an impact on the team very quickly as his style of play is suited to the Premier League. We are all looking forward to working with him."

Mkhitaryan joined Dortmund from Ukrainian heavyweights Shakhtar Donetsk last season where he scored 44 goals in 104 games.

"I am excited to play for a club with such an illustrious history and hope to be part of it for a long time. I thank the trust the club and Jose Mourinho have put in me," he said.

In securing the signatures of Mkhitaryan and Ibrahimovic, United have signed two players who last season scored as many goals in their respective leagues combined — 49 — as their entire squad managed in the Premier League.
