Spotify has returned after going down for many users just hours after YouTube experienced problems which left users unable to watch videos on the site.

The music streaming site became unavailable with users reporting being unable to connect, or messages of no internet connection, leaving people unable to play music.

According to Downdetector, there were been nearly 3,000 reports of issues in Europe and the east coast of the US.

Spotify said the site was now back up after saying it was investigating the problem. A reason for the outage, which started just before 3pm, has not yet been given.

We are investigating some issues and finding out more. Thanks for your reports – we’ll keep you updated here.

YouTube suffered an outage earlier this morning for around 15 minutes.

On the Spotify app, downloaded tracks could still be played, however, a blank screen indicating loading appeared on sections such as browsing. Online users were greeted with the message: "Spotify is currently not available. We are working on a fix and will continue to provide updates."

The Swedish firm announced earlier this week that it now has 100m users.

Clearly. some users were left bereft at their music-less situation.
