Russia given suspended disqualification from Euro 2016 and told “once more and you’re out” after attacks on England fans

Russia has been given a suspended disqualification from Euro 2016 and been warned any further crowd disturbances will see its team kicked out of the tournament.

After Russian fans fired flare guns and stormed England supporters at the end of the 1-1 draw in Marseille's Stade Velodrome on Saturday, Uefa has disqualified its team but suspended the punishment until after the tournament.

The organisation's disciplinary committee warned that the suspension will be lifted should there be any further "crowd disturbances" inside the stadium at Russia's remaining matches.

A fine of €150,000 (£118,850) has also been imposed on the Russian Football Union.

The decision is open to appeal.

Although Russia have been effectively placed in a last chance saloon by Uefa, the charge specifically relates to situations inside grounds —  "therefore under the jurisdiction of the Uefa disciplinary bodies" — and not on the streets of surrounding cities.

Both Russia and England were warned by Uefa's executive committee that they could be booted out of the tournament if their fans were involved in fighting during three days of clashes in Marseille.

French prosecutors identified 150 Russian hooligans as responsible for much of the violence on Saturday, but admitted they they evaded arrest. “These people were well prepared for ultra-rapid, ultra-violent action,” said prosecutor Brice Robin. “These are extremely well-trained people.”

Seven English fans remain in hospital, one in an induced coma.
