Heading to UEFA Euro 2016? Sorry but more travel disruption on the way as Air France updates warning on cancelled flights

Anybody heading across the Channel for a short getaway or to see their team play in Euro 2016 has a fresh set of travel woes, as Air France today warned that strike action would affect around a fifth of its flights for the next couple of days.

The French airline has advised passengers to check whether their journey is affected by the ongoing pilots' strike, which started yesterday and is due to run until Tuesday, before they trek off to the airport.

In a statement updated today to notify passengers about how many flights would be affected, Air France said that today it was planning to operate at least 80 per cent of its long-haul flights, at least 85 per cent of its domestic flights but only around 70 per cent of its medium-haul flights from Charles de Gaulle Airport.

For tomorrow, the airline is planning to operate about 85 per cent of its long-haul flights and its domestic flights but only around 72 per cent of its medium-haul flights.

An updated flight schedule for Tuesday is due to be published tomorrow.

This is not the first set of travel woes the country has experience recently, as the pilots' strike comes shortly after a train drivers' strike and a strike by oil workers which left many petrol stations in France running dry, as many workers protest against proposed changes to the country's labour laws.

The changes would give companies more power over workers' pay, hours and holidays and increase their abilities to hire and fire.

However, a statement from pilots' union Syndicat des Pilotes d'Air France notes that the Air France strike has been sparked by management at the airline, particularly in relation to changes triggered by its merger with KLM, working conditions and salaries.
