Which fans have the most expensive trip to Euro 2016?

English football fans will shell out more than one-third of their monthly earnings to watch the Three Lions in the flesh during Euro 2016, according to new research.

Ladbrokes have worked out that the England fan will spend £562.45 on a trip to France during the tournament, along with a replica shirt, food, drink and accommodation. That works out at 38 per cent of the average monthly wage.

The cheapest

Country Total cost (£) Total cost (local currency) Proportion of local wage
Switzerland £707 990 Swiss francs 18 per cent
France £475 €607 31 per cent
Germany £578 €740 34 per cent
England £562 £562 38 per cent
Republic of Ireland £753 €963 40 per cent

However, English fans have it among the cheapest of any of the 24 nations competing. In cash terms, only followers of France (€607) and the Czech Republic (19,348 Czech Koruna, £560) can watch a game at the tournament for less.

As a proportion of local earnings, Swiss, French and German fans can all get to the games with slightly more of their pay packets left untouched.

The dearest

Country Total cost (£) Total cost (local currency) Proportion of local wage
Ukraine £738 26,874 Hryvnia 539 per cent
Albania £725 128,689 Lek 329 per cent
Russia £860 80,078 Rubles 232 per cent
Romania £706 4,080 Leu 196 per cent
Turkey £742 3,112 Lira 155 per cent

Spare a thought, however, for Ukrainian fans, who would have to shell out nearly half a year's salary just to watch their team take to the field.

In total, fans of 10 different countries would have to spend more than a month's salary to watch their national teams take to the field at Euro 2016.
