Digital growth and an overhaul of prizes up for grabs has pushed National Lottery sales to a record £7.6bn last year, up by four per cent.

Camelot, which runs the lottery, reported digital sales on tablets and smartphones rose by 53 per cent to £596m, while in store sales increased by £73m to a record £6.01bn – making up 80 per cent of revenue.

Another record was hit in winning payouts, totaling £4.2bn, while charities received £1.9bn in funding.

Camelot guaranteed it would pay out £1m to a player each week from October last year and increased its potential jackpot prizes.
