It might feel like Friday is a long way away, but if you're still feeling the hangover pain from the weekend and don't want to overdo it in future, science may have just created the product for you.

BACtrack, a medical device maker based in San Fransisco that also develops breathalyzers, has won a $200,000 US national contest to design a wearable biosensor device with its Skyn wristband monitor that tells you whether your blood alcohol levels are too high.

The wristband is also linked to an app that offers real-time monitoring of alcohol levels and can even alert the user's phone to tell them when they've been drinking too much.

Although this is not the first transdermal alcohol monitor on the market, it is the first time a device has been paired with an app so extensively.

The company has not yet said how much the devices will cost, but they have confirmed it will be available in limited numbers by the end of the year, Gizmag reported.

“We are thrilled to win the Wearable Alcohol Biosensor Challenge," Keith Nothacker, president and chief executive of BACtrack, said.

"We’re excited to bring BACtrack Skyn to market to aid researchers and treatment providers in collecting more reliable data and ultimately, make advances in healthcare treatment."
