Police have carried out a series of controlled explosions on a car parked just outside ITV's Southbank studios.

Bomb disposal experts were called in early afternoon along with a robot which carried out the detonations.

Witnesses said they had been asked to move away from windows while the police conducted the operation, which reportedly focused on a white car parked nearby.

ITV spokeswoman told City PM: "The police kept our security staff informed and normal working at ITV was not disrupted."

Belvedere Road was sealed off and evacuated shortly after noon after a car deemed to be suspicious was discovered, but ITV's premises were not closed down.

The incident was heard during the live recording of popular daytime programme Loose Women.
