Dog lovers, look away now: Cat pictures may soon be coming to a Tube near you

Hot on the tail of the city's emerging cat café culture, Londoners may soon be able to see cats during their daily commute.

A cuddly Kickstarter fund aims to replace all the ads at a Tube station with pictures of cats, and it is coming within a whisker of its target.

Although it was initially dismissed as a joke, the Citizens Advertising Takeover Service (CATS) is giving advertisers paws for thought after raising more than half of its £23,000 target in just a couple of weeks.

If the full amount is raised by Sunday 22 May, the group will replace all the ads in one London Tube station with pictures of adorable cats doing adorable things.

Why? According to CATS:

  1. It would look amazing;
  2. It’s exhausting being asked to buy stuff all the time; and
  3. We can help lost cats find homes

The team behind the Kickstarter campaign is working with both the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and Cats Protection, and the posters will feature real cats who are looking for new homes. For a donation of £100, you can buy your own cat a starring role in the posters, while £2,500 will get your cat an entire poster all to itself.

“This is about trying something, flexing our collective voice in the most idiotic of ways,” said CATS.

“From all this madness something amazing could happen. Perhaps we'll start to realise that buying stuff isn't making us happy.

“Maybe cats won't make us happy either, but it’s got to be better than insurance adverts. Maybe during this moment of cat related calm we might have a brilliant thought, or a dumb one or even… spend a moment thinking about nothing at all.”

The CATS team believe that £20,000 will buy around 10 posters, while their stretch goal of £75,000 would allow them to fill an entire station with pictures of cats.

For animal lovers, it’s the purrfect way to chase away the commuter blues.
