Twitter’s making a change that’s actually really useful as links and images reportedly dropped from character limit

Finally, Jack Dorsey is giving us a Twitter change we actually want.

Thankfully, the newly returned under pressure boss of Twitter has ditched the rumoured – and ridiculous – 10,000-character limit increase, but the latest change will give you more space.

Adding links and images, such as photos and gifs, will no longer count in the 140-character tweet word limit, giving users just that little bit extra but crucial space to share their thoughts.

According to a report from Bloomberg, the change is coming as soon as in the next two weeks.

The removal of links gives people an all important 23 additional characters to play with. Hurrah.

The social network is attempting to walk the tricky line between keeping its current, highly dedicated users happy and making it more attractive to new users as growth slows.

The latest change would follow hot on the heels of less crowd pleasing ones such as a new Connect tab. Blink and you missed it, but it announced the feature – which suggests Twitter accounts to follow based on interests and who else you follow – at the start of the month.

While other new features have not necessarily landed in the way Jack Dorsey may have been hoping, this latest move is sure to be a people pleaser, with the existing Twitterati, at least.
